Viva Las Vegas! Here in Washington, I have been absolutely spoiled with incredible scenery and diverse terrain - but sometimes it’s fun to just shake it up a bit! A few months ago, one of my favorite people (and fellow photographer) Kara and I came up with a crazy idea of combining girls’ weekends with locations we’ve always wanted to shoot at. The idea was to travel around the country being inspired by various landscapes, while enjoying a little wine, pampering and time to share a girlfriend getaway for 48 hours. Las Vegas and The Valley of Fire were first on our list, and so we put it out into the universe that we were heading south and a few awesome local folks reached out to us to let us know they’d be game to scale some rocks! (Kara specializes in families, and I usually stick to couples and weddings.)
The red rock formations and ominous Nevada skies were absolutely bonkers. (Bluebird sunny skies for about 5 minutes, then a dramatic lightning storm, then pelted with giant raindrops and ridiculous wind gusts.) We almost got ambushed by fighting lizards out in the desert. I met a rad couple who are cooler/edgier than I could ever be, and we recharged with some quality time with great girlfriends on the strip. Nevada, you were everything I hoped for and more!
